According to the Western herbal medicine tradition, oregano was used as an expectorant and natural, healthful antibiotic to treat cough and as a digestive stimulant drug to alleviate dyspepsia and increase appetite. Its antibacterial attributes have also been used to treat skin and gastrointestinal infections. Additionally, it was used for menstrual conditions like period pain.
