Sulphur
Sulphur is necessary for the maintenance of connective tissue. For example the sulphur containing supplement MSM has been shown to reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
Selenium
Selenium is related chemically to sulphur. Together with the amino acid cysteine it is a precursor to one of the super antioxidants, glutathione peroxidase.
Selenium supplementation has been shown to prevent cancer and some allergies.
Zinc
Zinc is required by numerous enzymes in the body. Zinc increases testosterone levels and is required for the sense of taste.
Copper
Copper deficiency can lead to a loss of hair pigmentation.
Iron
Iron is required to produce red blood cells. It is also a free radical which causes aging and disease and should only be supplemented to prevent deficiency, especially if red meat is included in the diet.
