Diabetes
Whereas type I diabetes is hereditary, type II diabetes is increasing in western society and is attributed to poor diet, lack of exercise, insufficient sleep and stress.
It would seem that there is a strong link between diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and possibly cancer. Generally this results in dementia and problems with the eyes and ears too.
It appears that if we cut processed carbohydrates out of the diet like bread, biscuits, cake, sugar, fructose and other flour products like pasta that we would be less at risk for diabetes and other diseases. In nature carbohydrates are accompanied by flavonoids and antioxidants which have been proven to negate the damage done to the circulatory system by carbohydrate and sugar. These include anthocyanin, the colour in red wine and the b vitamins and many more. Several experiments have shown that calory deprivation increases lifespan whereas increased calorific intake shortens it. Anthocyanin has been shown to counter the effect of calory intake. It appears that the aging effect of calories is partly due to inflammation which degrades the blood vessels making the blood vessel wall thinner, resulting in scarring of the blood vessel wall, build up of plaque, and leaking of the blood vessel as in varicose veins. About 40mg of anthocyanin daily can prevent this inflammation.
The B vitamins are required to metabolise carbohydrates. Well mollasses is high in B vitamins and minerals. Yes that is what has been taken out of the sugar during refining.
A similar situation has happened in the refining of oils. Extra virgin olive oil contains bitters which have been proven to reduce blood pressure. They may also contain enzymes and will contain vitamin e. Refined oils are turned into soap with caustic soda and then after 'purification' back into oil with acid. Yes I'm talking about most oils that you buy. These vegetable oils are also implicated in heart disease and can damage the blood vessels.
One very large study showed that unfermented milk protein was linked to heart disease, which means that cream, yoghurt, butter, cheese and such may be OK. Some of us think that the cholesterol hype is a myth. Is the build up of cholesterol plaque in blood vessels due to consuming cholesterol or to scarring of the arterial walls? Modern medical science identifies the substances mentioned above as doing just that. Fortunately many herbs can reverse this, Many herbs, vitamins and minerals can help with diabetes too by stabilising blood sugar levels.
