Consequently, there was major planting of maca at the altitudes between 9,000 and 11,000ft. Dr. Chacon proved that the maca plants below 12,500ft did not contain the same attributes as those above 12,500ft the species above 12,500ft was named after her Lepidium peruvianum Chacon in approximately 1964.
